Originally trained as a fashion & costume designer and scenographer, I have found my way into autonomous art. In my love for textiles I am always looking for the functions it can have for me. For the first time I pay attention to textiles without involving the body and I only enter into a dialogue with material and form. The movement that makes the human body communicative is replaced by stationary morphiques that trigger movement in the brain, creating its own interpretation of the work. The materials I work with are up-cycled materials such as wooden children’s toy blocks, leather from wardrobes, sofas and yard sales. These materials have all had a previous life. This is not visible in the work but is important to me because I build on materials with past lives that want to be transformed again. The wooden blocks that are incorporated in the works have been played with by children for years and have been told countless stories and feelings. I believe that these uninhibited souls are included in the wooden toys and translated into these sculptures. Open-mindedness of children is considered normal and magical, whilst in adults this is often seen as immature or dysfunctional.
