My work visualises the associative and non-linear way I perceive my surroundings. This is distinctive compared to neurotypical people. An inability to filter irrelevant stimuli plays a big role in this distinction. I explore the theme of ‘irrelevant stimuli’. The public space, familiar territory, to every viewer, forms the foundation. By depicting the non-information of these stimuli and bringing them to the forefront, I connect the viewer to something they might know is happening, but rarely get to see. Moreover, I ask both the viewer as well as myself how irrelevant these stimuli truly are. What if they are in fact the cornerstone that establishes our perception of the tangible world?
At This Art Fair I will exhibit a selection of paintings and sculptures that revolve around this theme. Working as intuitively and autonomously as possible, the results are pleasantly disharmonious works that connect the viewer to the hidden world of suppressed and filtered stimuli.
