Ave Pildas

1980

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ave Pildas, early in his career, worked as a photo stringer for Downbeat Magazine. In 1971 Pildas began working as the Art Director at Capitol Records in Hollywood where he designed and photographed album covers for the label’s recording artists. He launched a career as a freelance photographer and designer soon after, and has been a successful photographer and educator for the past 40 years.

QLICK will feature Pildas’ series of vintage black and white photographs from the late ’70s and early ’80s. The images show beautifully captured nudes that are clearly marked by the era. The elements of sexual freedom, exploration of new boundaries and the study of the naked human body are combined. Pildas plays with lines and forms in a graphical, attractive manner. The raw style of the work is supported by his technical skills of analogue photography, which creates the subtle erotic-urban vibe.

Photographs by Ave Pildas are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Bibliotheca National, Paris; the University of Arizona, as well as numerous other public and private collections.
