Isolation, estrangement and vulnerability. I have observed that those are the leading themes in my work. I paint in between the figurative and the abstract. Images in which human figures are often alone, locked in a ‘space’ that is either screaming or silent. My works are colourful, but give a sense of darkness.
During the process I fall in love with the composition or the figure(s), which makes it hard to continue working on it, because I fear to disturb the balance. However, when that happens I have to continue and break through the balance in order to find freedom. In this freedom I discover things that I would never have conceived in the first place. That’s when I start painting.
