At This Art Fair, I present the first selection of paintings from my new series, ‘I Wish Everything Was Different’: a deeply personal exploration of my homelands, memory and resistance in the face of ongoing violence.
As the genocide in Gaza continues and the fall of Assad’s dictatorship marks a new chapter for Syria, these works stand as a testament to lives, stories and dreams that refuse to be erased. Through painting, I transform grief into a space of remembrance and defiance, honouring the resilience of those who continue to survive and resist.
Blending native flowers and natural elements with fragmented realism, my work reimagines memory as a soft yet persistent force – where absence becomes presence, and loss becomes resistance. This series is not just about what has been taken but about what endures: the spirit of the homeland and the fight for a future beyond destruction.
