Life is like a stream in which we are taken along; we can resist, but the current will not reverse its flow. What we can control is how we handle the things that life throws at us. We can choose to remain calm, try to accept fate.
To emphasise the omnipresent state of impermanence in life, I use time as a central component in my practice. Rhythmic shapes arise on the canvas, only to transform and disappear into the void. The materials are processed to create ever-changing compositions that are receptive of the changing light of day; these aspects can also be experienced when one’s viewpoint is altered. This layer of uncontrollability within my work acts as a visual reference to the fact that in our own lives many things are beyond our control. In my practice I reflect on finding balance and acceptance within the natural and inescapable course of things.www.annemarieslobbe.com
