Life is like a stream which takes us along; we can resist, but the current will not reverse its flow. What we can control is how we handle the things that life throws at us.
We can choose to remain calm, trying to accept fate.
I use time as a central component in my paintings and drawings, which often consist of rhythmic and repetitive patterns. To emphasise the state of impermanence of everything, I manipulate my materials to create compositions that are receptive of the changing light of day. The transitory characteristics of the work are also experienced by the spectator, when one’s viewpoint is altered.
By using these elements, I add a layer of uncontrollability to the work, as a visual reference to the fact that in our own lives many things are beyond our control. I question the human struggle against the uncontrollable; it brings more inner peace when one decides to find acceptance of their situation, and learns to let go.
