For Jenny Wilson, painting is a way of seeking a liquid visual order. A jolted movement here, a familiar feature there; the gaze wanders between distinct detail and self-satisfied brush stroke. A constructed context, shifting and on the verge of melting away.
In her latest work the paint is no longer physically present. The remains of paintings are included in the digital image of computer composed photo collages. Although Wilson’s technique has shifted from manual to digital, it has nevertheless retained the same specific mood and tone of her earlier work.
The collages are mostly composed out of a mix of photos of tropical foliage and abstract picturesque forms, sometimes digitally fabricated, sometimes from her own paintings. Although the compositions consist of very different fragments, the hand of the artist forges a new entity, which exudes a certain exoticism, but also evokes a sense of friction.
Work by Jenny Wilson is shown on This Art Fair by galerie with tsjalling at booth G13.
