In her work, Lorena van Bunningen investigates the rational versus the subconscious. She looks at her daily surroundings, at various materials, and at the treatment of the material world around us. She sees objects as traces, as pieces of evidence of our actions and our existence, and starts looking for the moment at which a well-known object loses its familiarity and functionality and becomes abstract. Lorena captures these silent moments.

Lorena van Bunningen (Quito 1990) studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. In 2017 she was chosen as the favourite of the public during the Beelden in Leiden (Sculpture in Leiden) event.
