I am presenting the results of a visual research project under the title “JOY”: an investigation into how joy manifests itself or does not manifest itself, and whether this can be fuelled by the creation and experience of art. The result consists of a collection of work in textile and on paper in an opulent and dynamic aesthetic; tapestries, drawings, masks and paintings composed of a medley of joyful components. The teddy bear plays a leading role as a symbol of transference and generosity.
Wealth, sexuality, softness, excess and collecting play a role in the composite visual language.
Thanks to the Creative Industry Fund, I collaborated with designer Manuel Pelegrini developing an interactive installation about a tangle of emotions and the experience of joy.
We also participate in the performance programme with a connecting dance in collaboration with depri-wave artist Stippenlift.
