I am a child of two cultures. 

The first culture is day-to-day living in the Netherlands. The second culture is the memory, a possible alternative life, my country of birth. The duality of these parallel realities is the conceptual source from where I create my paintings. 

One image presents itself when my eyes are open, the other shows itself when I close my eyes. 

A new, individual reality grows in the intermediate area. 

My paintings arise from a sense of urgency to give meaning and visualisation to this “own” reality and to search for the meaning of this world that presents itself as an area of simplicity, folklore, attention, observation, stories versus abstraction, flatness versus spatiality.
