Masks, monsters and fantasy creatures come to life in my ceramic works: figures that seem to emerge from another reality, infused with mythology and folklore. Each piece holds its own secrets, some with a dark edge, others more playful. While these characters carry a sense of humour, they also evoke an underlying feeling of estrangement.
My work moves between reality and fantasy, the present and the theatrical. As a painter, I have long explored themes of masquerades, alienation, reality and playful deception. Seeking both freedom and reinvention, I have spent the past few years transforming my visual language through new materials. Now, by merging clay with textiles, I create forms that quite literally take on another dimension.
